THEY
SAID IT AT THE DETROIT ECONOMIC CLUB...

Carlos
Ghosn, CEO of The Renault-Nissan Alliance, On Business Partnerships
|
November 16, 2006 - The Detroit Economic Club
hosted Carlos Ghosn, president and CEO of Nissan
Motor Co., Ltd. & Renault
S.A. at Cobo Center.
Ghosn delivered a speech titled Inside the Alliance:
The Win-Win Nature of a Unique Business Model. Following
an introduction by Presiding Officer Sandra Pierce, president & CEO
of
Charter
One Bank - Michigan and Indiana, Carlos Ghosn
provided insight into the Renault-Nissan Alliance's seven-year
track record and future potential. "So why has this alliance
succeeded where others didn't?" asked Ghosn. "When Renault
and Nissan signed the alliance, there was no winner and there was
no loser. Even
though Nissan was financially weak at that time, the executives
of both companies were extremely aware that if this partnership
were to be successful it would be vital to respect the identities
and self-esteem of all the people involved."
Ghosn then discussed the Renault-Nissan Alliance's goal of finding
a North American partner. "What about adding a third
partner to the Alliance? ... My response
is very simple: why not?
The Renault-Nissan Alliance is a credible reference. Why not use
it if there is any opportunity in the industry," said Ghosn. "We
expect that we could gain from a third party the benefits that
we have already found in our
current partnership. Benefits such as greater international scope,
better supplier pricing, faster development times, broader product
lines, increased revenue and profit, and a broader, diverse talent
pool." |

It's
Automania at DEC
Beth Chappell, President and CEO, Detroit
Economic Club |
|
Between now and mid-January, the DEC is shifting into automotive
overdrive. Since our region is the automotive capital of the Western
Hemisphere, if not the entire globe, the Detroit Economic Club makes
it a tradition to focus on Detroit's core industry as the annual rite
of winter, the North American International Auto Show, draws near.
To put the goings-on within the auto industry into perspective, the
Club will host the Annual Economic Outlook Luncheon, which focuses
on the finance, construction, and yes, automotive industries. What's
different
this
year is that the Economic Outlook Luncheon will unfold as a panel discussion,
rather than a string of speeches by market sector experts.
In mid-December, the finalists for the 2007 North American Car
and Truck of the Year award will be unveiled live from the floor of
our Detroit Economic Club meeting. The unveiling will be simulcast
live on WDIV Local 4.
The automotive crescendo peaks with the annual North American International
Auto Show Luncheon in January.
I hope to see you at one of these upcoming meetings.
All the best,
Beth |
