THEY SAID IT AT THE DETROIT ECONOMIC CLUB...

Lions Head Coach Rod Marinelli

Lions Ready to Roar into the 2006 NFL Season This Sunday

August 24, 2006 -- The Detroit Economic Club hosted the 10th Annual Detroit Lions Kickoff Luncheon at Burton Manor in Livonia. The entire Lions team and coaching staff attended the sold-out luncheon benefiting Think Detroit PAL. Detroit Lions President and CEO Matt Millen was optimistic about the Lions upcoming season. "I think we have all the tools in place, I think we have the coaches to make it work and I think we have the players to make it work," said Millen. "It's going to be physical. It's going to be fast, and it's going to be the type of football that you can be proud of." Incoming Lions Head Coach Rod Marinelli was loath to make any predictions. "It's a show-me game," said Marinelli. It's what we do in that stadium... What you will see, though, is a team that's very physical, very tough mentally." The Detroit Lions kickoff their 2006 season on September 10, 2006 at Ford Field against the Seattle Seahawks.

Beth Chappell, President and CEO, Detroit Economic Club

Beth Chappell

The 2006-2007 Detroit Economic Club speaking season is off to a fantastic start. The DEC hosted the Detroit Lions at the 10th Annual Lions Kickoff Luncheon, where Lions fans, players, coaches and staff got a chance to mingle and talk about the upcoming NFL season.

The Lions Kickoff Luncheon is usually a fun meeting and a way of saying thanks to our members. But in contrast, upcoming DEC meetings will focus on some of the most important business, government and social issues of our times, beginning with a much-anticipated appearance by UAW President Ron Gettelfinger on September 7 at The Masonic. This is followed closely by a visit from the U.S. Treasurer Anna Escobedo Cabral on September 12.

The Detroit Economic Club welcomes all those who share an interest in the major issues of the day. I hope to see you at an upcoming meeting.

All the best,

Beth
